Dalit Christians Today

Dalit Catholic Mahajana Sabha

The organization came into existence in 1955 in the name of Avasha Catholika Mahajana Sabha (ACMS); but later it came to be known as Harijan Catholic Mahajana Sabha (HCMS). It was in 1993 the organization got the present name Dalit Catholic Mahajana Sabha (DCMS).

The organization was founded with the recognition of Kerala Catholic Bishops Conference, with the objective of systematic and integral development of Dalit Catholics in their spiritual, political, cultural, social, economic and educational sphere. It stands for defending the rights of the Dalit Catholics and does voice for them.

It is spread through all the catholic dioceses of Kerala and is free from any political parties and their ideologies; it is purely an ecclesiastical organization and acts beyond politics. It has its units in state, diocese, forane and parish level led by elected body of leaders and acts as per the by-law constituted. The organization has stroked many milestones of outcomes through its interventions for the welfare of the Dalit community. These days DCMS does make strong interventions through social action strategies to secure justice from government on matters of reservation of quotas in admission to academic institutions and appointments of job positions.
