Dalit Christians Today - Overview
The
life of Dalit Catholics within the Church and the
society at large was seldom studied. There is also
insufficient data pertaining to the social,
economic, cultural, educational and health
conditions of Dalit Catholics. Absence of sufficient
data can decelerate the process of community
upliftment. There is lack of clear definition of
Dalit Catholics, which itself is a depressing
restraint for identifying Dalit Catholic issues.
This is the prime reason why the Archdiocese of
Ernakulam-Angamaly recognizes the crucial need to
carry out a baseline survey within the Archdiocese
to identify the problems of Dalit Catholics and
issues involved in it. The survey is meant to be a
first hand tool to reach to the real,
people-centered action plan. The survey look forward
to bring far-reaching progressive impacts by
obliterating different mode of segregation within
the Archdiocese in the name of caste and schedule as
of the social structure prevailed. It is envisioned
to fill the fissure by bringing about a radical
transformation in the attitude and outlook within
the Dalit Catholic Community and the Archdiocese at
large.

within the Archdiocese of Ernakulam-Angamaly through
